My three children, Rhiannon, Rikki, and Ty,
are adults now, living on their own. Each is following his
or her own path – starting a family, tracking animals in the
wilds of Canada, working as a commercial electrician’s
apprentice.
I was fortunate in being with the children
throughout their first eighteen years, unschooling them most
of that time. (Unschooling is a form of homeschooling,
advanced by John Holt, that gives children freedom in
creating their own education.) Through them, I learned to see life once
more as a child. I now bring that expanded awareness to my
writings. I see how children are treated by the well-meaning
adults in their lives, and I work to open their eyes, too,
so that respect flows to all members of our society, the
young, the old, and all in between. |
